The regular cut-crease is undoubtedly one of the most popular ways to apply eyeshadow, but with the ever-changing world of make-up and beauty, there’s always going to be someone creative thinking up new ways to upgrade a look.
The reverse cut crease was created by London-based make-up artist Ana Takahashi in November 2021 for a photoshoot that garnered almost 30,000 likes on Instagram - quickly becoming a trend on social media and inspiring other beauty enthusiasts to re-create it.
SO, WHAT IS THE REVERSE CUT CREASE AND HOW DO YOU CREATE IT?
As the name would suggest, the “reverse cut crease” inverts the eyeshadow colour using a lighter colour across the lid and a darker colour above the crease line of the eye as opposed to leaving the brow bone “bare”.
It can be said that dramatic eye make-up can be achieved in all sorts of ways when you’re equipped with a good colour palette and the right application tools.
But, the reverse cut crease trend is a style that has become irresistible to make-up artists and beauty enthusiasts alike.
Makeup artist @evyxo caught the eye of nearly 46,000 people who liked her post after showing off a “mint chocolate chip” reverse cut crease in January 2022.
The makeup and beauty industry has an affinity for high-definition looks, I’m sure you’ve seen it too! Instagram is plagued with contoured jaws, noses and even necklines, so it should come as no surprise that there’s now a super colourful way to ultra-define and widen the eye shape.
